Box Score LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – A frantic finish to regulation resulted in a tie for the George Mason men's soccer team on a rainy, chilly Sunday.

Senior captain Henning Dirks scored a go-ahead goal for the Patriots in the 88th minute, only to see host Siena knot the game 55 seconds later. After two overtimes, the teams drew a 2-2 tie as No. 22/RV Mason left its two-game road trip in New York salvaging a tie after falling 3-1 to Albany on Friday.

"A good point on the road," head coach Greg Andrulis said. "The field and weather created a difficult environment for the guys, but we continue to grow as a team. The second half and overtimes, we played our best soccer of the year and created some great goal scoring chances. Unfortunately we couldn't find the winning goal."

A steady rain fell at Siena Turf Field most of the afternoon as the temperature was a brisk 54 degrees at the start of the game. The teams nearly went into halftime in a scoreless tie until the Saints (0-1-2) ended the scoring drought with just 24 seconds remaining in the first half. Siena's Carter Haydock scored on a rebound after the Mason defense blocked the initial shot.

The Patriots (2-1-1) answered right after halftime. Dirks sent in a free kick into the box, where senior Noah Kemble redirected the shot inside the near left post to tie the game. It was the first career goal for Kemble, a midfielder from Havelock, North Carolina.

With the game appearing destined for overtime, Dirks briefly gave the Patriots the lead with 2:42 remaining. The forward from Munster, Germany, scored his team-high third goal of the season in front of the goal in traffic off an assist from sophomore Tunde Akinlosotu.

The lead was short-lived, though. Just 55 seconds later, in the 89th minute, Siena's Alexander Tejera drained a shot inside the near left post.

The game went into overtime, where both teams fired off four shots during the two, 10-minute periods. Mason freshman goalkeeper Corey Chambers made two saves in overtime to finish with a career-high nine for the game. Siena attempted 25 shots compared to 12 by the Patriots. Mason registered just two shots on goal – both resulting in goals.

The Patriots return home to open a three-game homestand at 7:30 p.m. on Friday against Binghamton. The game will cap off a doubleheader with the women's team, who will host Rutgers at 5 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
