The George Mason track and field team competed at
the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday and six individuals reached
qualifying times for the IC4A/ECAC Championships which are now just two weeks
away.
Victoria Samyn
ran the seventh-fastest time in
school history in the 1000 meters as she was sixth in the event with a time of
2:55.20, qualifying for the ECAC meet. On the men's side, Parker Boudreau won
the 1000 meters in 2:23.85 and Anthony LaMastro was third in the event in
2:27.02. In the 400 meters,
David Verburg
was first in 47.75,
Kevin Wilson
was
fourth in 48.85, and
George Empty
was fifth in 48.92. All of them qualified for
the IC4A meet with those times.
In the pole vault, Wes Sun cleared a season-best
4.92 meters, while in the 5000 meters, Andrew Pitts was fifth and
Robert Krause
was seventh. The men's 4X400 squad won the event in 3:11.12 while the distance
medley team was second. The women's distance medley team won that event while
the 4X400 team was seventh. Mason's other two top-10 finishers on the weekend
were
Mandissa Marshall
, who was sixth in the pole vault, and
David Wellington
,
who was 10th
in the high jump.
The Patriots will compete next week at home as the
Field House hosts the Last Chance Meet. The following weekend is the IC4A/ECAC
Championships in Boston.
