Women Finish First, Men Finish Second at Mason Invitational

Leesburg, Va. - The George Mason men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Mason Invitational on Saturday morning and in their only home meet of the season, the women took first place and the men took second. Laura Sinclair won the women's race, competing on a six-kilometer course. Lamar, which won the men's race, had the top three finishers on the eight-kilometer course. The other schools that competed were Lamar University, American, UNC-Wilmington, Campbell, Howard, and Assumption College.

George Mason women's team finished in first place with a total score of 56 points, just ahead of American, which had 58 points. Sinclair finished first overall for the second consecutive race. She finished 16 seconds ahead of Octavia Rinehardt, of American. Sinclair ran the race in a time of 20:46 and averaged a 5:35 mile. Mason had five out of the top-20 finishers with the next best time coming from Sandy Castro who ran the race in 22:15 and finished sixth overall. Victoria Samyn finished 12th overall with a time of 22:52, Rochelle Sceats finished 18th with a time of 23:21, and Samantha Fickel came in 19th place running the race in 23:28.

The men's team had 36 points and finished second behind Lamar University, which recorded a score of 27 points. Mason had nine out of the top-20 finishers and also had four runners finish in the top ten. Everett Hackett came in fourth overall and was Mason's top finisher running the race in a time of 24:26, 11 seconds behind the leader, Tallam Kipruto of Lamar University. Scott Tekesky came in fifth place with a time of 24:31, Robert Reynolds finished ninth with a time of 25:08 and John Holt ran a time of 25:11, which was good for tenth. Also finishing in the top 20 were Parker Boudreau (11th) with a time of 25:16, Daniel Callan (13th) with 25:19, Sean Nestor (14th) with 25:28, Andrew Pitts (15th) with a time of 25:36 and Mike Pachella (19th) finishing with a time of 25:44.

George Mason's men's team returns to action on October 16th at the Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The women's next race is also on October 16th at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, NJ. That race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. as well.
