Fairfax, Va. — George Mason University women's soccer head coach announced the addition of Chris Harwick and Fred Owusu Sekyere as assistant coaches, strengthening the Patriots' staff ahead of the upcoming season.

"We are thrilled to welcome Chris Harwick and Fred Owusu Sekyere to our staff alongside Emilene Parham, Sydney Perlowski, Dan Ostberg, and me," said head coach Aaron Brunner. "They are excellent additions to George Mason women's soccer. Both bring a daily commitment to growth, a high level of tactical understanding, and a genuine ability to connect with and holistically develop our student-athletes."

Brunner added, "Chris has a proven track record of building competitive environments and maximizing performance, while Fred's experience across the collegiate and professional game, combined with his strong ties to our program, adds tremendous value. Together, they raise our standards and move us forward as we continue building a championship-driven culture in the Atlantic 10."

Harwick arrives in Fairfax after five seasons with Louisiana Tech University, where he most recently served as associate head coach for the Bulldogs. During his tenure, he played an instrumental role in the program's resurgence, helping guide Louisiana Tech to back-to-back appearances in the Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship, including a semifinal run in 2023.

A proven developer of talent, Harwick helped coach multiple all-conference selections and award winners, including consecutive Conference USA Freshman of the Year honorees. He was also integral in the Bulldogs' 2022 campaign, which saw the program earn its first conference tournament bid since 2019 and achieve its highest league finish since 2017, along with a program-record number of all-conference honors.

In addition to his on-field coaching responsibilities, Harwick oversaw Louisiana Tech's soccer technology operations, utilizing advanced video and GPS tracking systems to enhance player performance and match analysis. Prior to his time in Ruston, he spent two seasons as the top assistant at Clarkson University and three seasons at Millsaps College, where he helped the program to 23 victories and multiple postseason appearances.

A former student-athlete at St. Mary's College of Maryland, Harwick was a team captain and four-year contributor, appearing in 52 matches during his collegiate career.

Owusu Sekyere brings more than a decade of coaching experience across the collegiate and professional levels and returns to George Mason University after previously serving as an assistant coach for the Patriots during the 2023 season. He most recently served as assistant coach at American University following a stint as head coach of the Richmond Ivy in the USL W League.

Owusu Sekyere has deep ties to the Atlantic 10, having been part of a VCU staff that captured the program's first-ever Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship in 2021 while tying a school record with nine consecutive victories. He also helped guide the Rams to an Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance in 2022 and 2024.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Owusu Sekyere has held key developmental roles with Richmond-area youth programs, including serving as Director of Technical Development and Camps for the Richmond Kickers Youth. His background also includes a successful playing career, highlighted by his time at VCU and professionally with clubs such as the Charlotte Eagles and Richmond Kickers.
