FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason Men's Volleyball team will return to the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC) this weekend to host Barton College on Friday and will later host FDU Sunday to conclude their home-and-home series with the Knights.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, George Mason (10-7, 2-2 EIVA) split their two-game road trip in North Carolina, beating Queens 3-1 on Friday and losing to Belmont Abbey the following day.

On Friday, the Patriots beat Queens University of Charlotte 3-1 and extended their win streak to a season-high four games. The Patriots and Royals were virtually even in every statistical category. George Mason recorded one more service ace (six to five) but the Royals had the advantage in points (58 to 61), kills (46 to 47), blocks (six to nine), assists (40 to 44) and digs (39 to 50).

The following day, the Patriots fell to Belmont Abbey College in straight sets. The Patriots scored more kills (37 to 32), assists (35 to 32) and digs (23 to 20), but the Crusaders outhit the Patriots .310 to .122 and made eight blocks over George Mason's one.

AWARDS
George Mason picked up their third Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) weekly award of the season this week with Alexander Lillie being named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

The Ronkonkoma, New York, product led the team with a .619 hitting percentage, recording a service ace and having the second-most kills on the weekend with 15. He also played all seven sets and led the team in blocks per set (0.71) and total blocks (5), which included four block assists and a solo in the third set against Belmont Abbey.

Lillie currently leads the Patriots in blocks per set (1.06), total blocks (54.0) and solo blocks (11). He is second in the EIVA at 1.06 blocks per set and is hitting .412.

GAME 1: SCOUTING BARTON
Barton (7-8, 3-3 CC) are currently on a two-game winning streak, beating both Newberry (March 6) and Catawba (March 10) 3-1.

Sophomore outside hitter Lawson Hink is the team's leader in kills with 145. The Brookfield, Wisconsin, native had a career-high 19 kills in their most recent game against Catawba. 

Freshman outside hitter Jacob Martinez is the other Bulldog that is over the century mark in kills with 134. He posted a team season-high 22 kills on Feb. 20 in their five set win at Erskine.

On defense, middle blocker Ryan Geraci has the most blocks and service aces on the team with 67 and 15, respectively. The junior from Mukwonago, Wisconsin, has recorded two games in which he recorded three solo blocks (Jan. 18 at Queens and March 10 at Catawba).

HISTORY WITH THE BULLDOGS
The Patriots hold a 7-0 all-time series lead over Barton. George Mason won their first meeting, 3-1, in Fairfax on Jan. 31, 2014.

The last time George Mason and the Bulldogs met was on March 4, 2023, in Fairfax, where the Patriots won 3-1.

GAME 2: SCOUTING FDU
FDU (6-7, 0-2 NEC) finished last season 10-14 with a 3-5 Northeast Conference (NEC) record. The Knights (4-4, 0-0 NEC), were picked to finish fourth in the seven-team conference in this season's preseason poll, with one first-place vote given to them as well.

Since their last meeting with the Patriots earlier on Feb. 21, the Knights went 1-2, beating Fairfield in five sets on Feb. 28 and losing back-to-back games to conference opponent Manhattan on March 6-7.

Senior outside hitter Dylan McFadden is the team's leader in kills with 107. McFadden has recorded three games in which he has made 14 or more kills for the Knights, with his season-high of 16 coming on the team's Jan. 28 five-set win over Sacred Heart.

Outside hitter Laydon Biro is the team's second-highest offensive scorer, having recorded 105 kills so far in his sophomore campaign. Graduate student setter Baboloki Silwane has the most assists with 230 and has posted a 42-assist game twice this season.

On defense, junior middle blocker Rayjan Suarez Palacios leads the team in blocks with 38. The San Antonio, Texas, product also leads the team in solo blocks with seven.

HISTORY WITH THE KNIGHTS
Dating back to Feb. 25, 2022, the Patriots have a perfect 8-0 record against the Knights. Four of those games saw the Patriots win 3-1 and the remaining three came in straight sets. The last time the two schools played each other was last month on Feb. 21, 2026, where the Patriots won 3-0 in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Last season on Feb. 8, 2025, the Patriots won 3-1 in Hackensack.

UP NEXT
George Mason will hit the road and return to EIVA action next week, as they will travel to Fairfield, Connecticut, for a two-game series with Sacred Heart. The first game will be on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m., and the second game will be the following day at 4 p.m.
