Patriots to Face Richmond Spiders on Monday Afternoon

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's basketball team will host the Richmond Spiders on Monday, February 16. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with tip-off set for 4 p.m ET with Bill Rohland and Jen Surlas. Tommy Buckles will be on the GoMason Digital Network starting at approximately 3:45 p.m. 

This is the 71st matchup between the Patriots and Spiders. Richmond won the matchup between the two programs, 57-71. They also lead the series, 27-43.

SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
The Richmond Spiders women's basketball hold a 22-4 overall record and 12-1 mark in conference play. As a team, Richmond is averaging 75.2 points per game while allowing 60.3. The Spiders are shooting .467 from the field, .379 from three-point range (11.1 made threes per game), and .798 from the free throw line. They average 35.4 rebounds per game with a +2.4 rebounding margin, 16.6 assists per game, and post a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. Defensively, opponents are shooting .396 from the field and .291 from three, while Richmond averages 7.9 steals and 2.8 blocks per contest.

Individually, Maggie Doogan leads the team in scoring (22.5 ppg), rebounding (8.1 rpg), and blocks (27 total), while shooting .526 from the field and .429 from three. Rachel Ullstrom ranks second in scoring at 15.7 points per game and leads the team with 82 made threepointers, shooting .434 from beyond the arc. Ally Sweeney leads the Spiders in assists (4.5 apg, 116 total) while averaging 10.8 points per game and shooting .426 from three. Alicia Newell leads the team in steals with 52 total (2.2 per game).

In conference games only, Richmond is averaging 77.9 points per game while allowing 58.3, shooting .483 from the field and .409 from three. Doogan (21.4 ppg), Ullstrom (17.6 ppg), and Sweeney (11.1 ppg, 66 assists in 13 games) continue to lead the primary statistical categories, with Newell totaling 26 steals in conference play.

  • The George Mason coaching staff added a few new pieces and promoted two key staff members this off season. Demetria Frank was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Nigel Bowden was promoted to Director of Basketball Operations. Lauren Stack and Kate McCarney joined as graduate assistants, and Brandon Stewart was appointed Director of Player Personnel.
