Patriots Head to Davidson for Midweek Matchup

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The George Mason women's basketball team heads south this week to face the Davidson Wildcats on Wednesday, January 28. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with tip-off set for 7 p.m ET. Tommy Buckles will be on the GoMason Digital Network starting at approximately 6:45 p.m. 

This is the 17th matchup between the Patriots and the Wildcats. George Mason won the last matchup in the semi-finals of 2025 A-10 Tournament to send them to their first A-10 Championship. 

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

The Davidson Wildcats enter the matchup with a 15–7 overall record and a 7–2 mark in Atlantic 10 play. Davidson is averaging 68.5 points per game while allowing 58.3 points per contest. The Wildcats are shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three-point range, making an average of 8.0 three-pointers per game. From the free throw line, Davidson is shooting 69.7 percent. On the boards, the Wildcats average 34.9 rebounds per game and post a +2.5 rebounding margin, while recording 14.0 assists per game.

Charlise Dunn leads Davidson with 14.9 points per game, adding 7.8 rebounds and averaging 33.8 minutes per contest. Katie Donovan follows with 11.6 points per game and has converted 42 three-pointers this season. Kyra Bruyndoncx contributes 10.3 points per game while shooting 39.8 percent from beyond the arc. Edina Strausz averages 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, and Ines Garcia Monje adds 5.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per contest. Overall, eight Wildcats average at least 12 minutes per game.

Defensively, Davidson averages 10.1 steals and 3.2 blocks per game while forcing 17.9 turnovers per contest. Opponents are shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from three-point range against the Wildcats. Through 22 games, Davidson has scored 1,508 total points and allowed 1,282 points, with scoring distributed across all four quarters.

  • The George Mason coaching staff added a few new pieces and promoted two key staff members this off season. Demetria Frank was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Nigel Bowden was promoted to Director of Basketball Operations. Lauren Stack and Kate McCarney joined as graduate assistants, and Brandon Stewart was appointed Director of Player Personnel.

The Patriots return home to take on the Saint Louis Billikens on Saturday, January 31 at 3 p.m. for their annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
