Fairfax, Va.- Men's volleyball returns to the winning column after defeating LIU 3-1 in the NEC-EIVA Challenge.
The first set was a battle between both teams to have an early lead. There were 10 instances where the game was tied up until it was 14-14. From that moment, the Patriots did not look back and would take the first set 25-20 with an inspired
Aidan Weltin on the offense.
George Mason was more in control of the second set not allowing LIU to overcome the deficit.
Aidan Weltin and
Robert Evangelista kept the offense going to secure a 25-21 set win.
LIU were not looking to be swept and came out with a 25-20 win to force a fourth set.
Alexander Lillie was once again crucial in defense with four total blocks with
Robert Evangelista and
Aidan Weltin racking up more kills to secure the fourth set in favor for the Patriots. It was another close set with the Patriots defeating the Sharks 25-23 to call game.
"After playing sub par volleyball the night before, I thought our guys responded well to the challenge tonight against a good LIU team", said head coach
Jay Hosack. "We found a rhythm and executed our game plan, which gave us opportunities. Very proud of our team tonight."
