NORFOLK, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition on Friday evening at the Richmond Duals held at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
On the men's side, the Patriots won seven events against Davidson on the first day of their two-day dual. On the women's side, Duquesne placed first (800.5), followed by Richmond (638), Davidson (559) and George Mason (404.5) in a championship format.
The men's team will complete its two-day dual against Davidson on Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m., while the women's team will also face Davidson.
On the men's side, senior
Tate Anderson won the 100-yard freestyle (44.70) with sophomore
Gabriel Miller right behind in second (46.56). Anderson placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.84) with freshman
Robert Dykman fifth in the event (1:46.25).
Junior
Ian Rodgers took the top spot in the 50-yard backstroke (22.78) while senior
Jett Lee placed third (24.02).Â
The Patriots took four of the top five spots in the 50-yard butterfly with Rodgers first (22.35), junior
Agustin Rasche third (23.09), junior
Colin Murtaugh fourth (23.11) and freshman
Brendan Lao fifth (23.58).
In the 50-yard breaststroke, senior
Jack Chapman touched the wall first (26.02) with classmate
Michael Bock taking third (26.99). Chapman also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.62).
Junior
Alex Crown placed second in the 400-yard IM (4:08.51). Sophomore
Ryan Serbia took third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.88).
George Mason went two-three in the 50-yard freestyle with Miller second (21.18) and Rasche third (21.38).
The Patriots swept the relay events. In the 400-yard medley relay the team of junior
Colin Murtaugh, Rodgers, Chapman and Anderson took first with a time of 3:25.20. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the combination of junior
Colby Lane, Anderson, Rodgers and Rasche swam to a first-place finish with a time of (1:22.81).
In the first day on the women's side, senior
Peyton Brehmer placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.88).
In the 50-yard backstroke freshman
Sidney Kaufman was fourth (27.28). In the 50-yard butterfly, Brehmer placed fourth (25.88) and junior
Hannah Magdeburg was seventh (26.45).
In the 400-yard IM, junior
Kristen Ivey placed sixth (4:39.37) and in the 500-yard freestyle junior
Sarah Dichak was seventh (5:15.55). Junior
Casey Tingen placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.94).

Madelyn Abel, senior
Angelina Zeidan, Brehmer and Tingen touched the wall third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.52).
Day two of the Richmond Duals is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
