George Mason University women's volleyball head coach Megan Shifflett Bachmann has announced the promotion of Nick Mata to Associate Head Coach.

"Nick has been such an integral part of this program for the past three years, and I can't think of anyone more deserving of the Associate Head Coach title," said Shifflett Bachmann. "Nick has such a passion for the game and I've rarely seen anyone who works harder - but even more importantly, he's the highest-quality human being who never fails to prioritize the health and well-being of our student-athletes. These qualities have made him pivotal to our team's growth and to setting the program on the path to more success."

The Tuscan, Ariz. native is entering his fourth year with the Patriots women's volleyball program. In his time in Fairfax, the women's volleyball program has been more competitive on the court, increasing their number of wins every season.

Mata previously served as the director of operations for the Arizona women's volleyball and beach volleyball programs after graduating from the University of Arizona in 2015.

In 2023, Mata was named to the AVCA Thirty Under 30 list, which recognizes up-and-coming coaches at all levels of volleyball. During his time at Mason, Mata has helped coach two players to the A-10 All-Rookie team and one player to the A-10 All-Conference Second team.
