TYSONS, Va. – Senior center fielder Jordan Smith drove in four runs and sophomore starter Connor Knox tossed four innings of one-hit ball to lead the Patriots to a 13-2 win over Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.

Knox retired the first 10 batters he faced in the game and allowed just three baserunners in his second start of the season before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Smith went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.  Junior first baseman Reece Woody was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.  Sophomore right fielder James Quinn-Irons finished 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and scored a run.

George Mason (19-23, 6-9 A10) took the lead against Georgetown (29-13, 10-4 Big East) freshman starter Marcello Mastroianni in the top of the first.

Smith reached on an error and stole third.  After a walk to junior shortstop Carsen Pracht, graduate student left fielder Ben Jones drove in his 32nd run of the season with a sacrifice fly to put the Patriots in front.  Quinn-Irons then doubled in Pracht to make it a 2-0 game.

With one out in the top of the second, Woody drew a walk and sophomore third baseman Evan Blanchard doubled to put two runners in scoring position.  With two outs, Smith drove in two runs with a single down the left field line to double the Mason advantage to 4-0.

Georgetown threatened in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases with a single, error and a walk.  Knox was able to get out of the jam when Hoyas graduate student center fielder Kavi Caster lined out to first base to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, the Patriots sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs against Hoyas graduate student reliever Cody Jensen.

Quinn-Irons reached on an error, junior designated hitter Connor Dykstra was hit by a pitch and graduate student catcher Socrates Bardatsos walked to load the bases.  Woody then ripped a two-run single through the right side to extend the Mason lead to 6-0.

After a sacrifice bunt by Blanchard moved a pair of runners into scoring position, graduate student second baseman South Trimble lifted a sacrifice fly to center field and Smith drove in his third run of the game with his 17th double of the season to make the score 8-0.

The Hoyas got on the board in the home half of the sixth against Patriots graduate student reliever Luke Goodyear.  With two outs and runners on first and second after back-to-back singles, senior center fielder Andrew Bergeron cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line to make it an 8-2 game.

In the top of the eighth, Blanchard was hit by a pitch to start the inning and with one out, Smith was also hit by a pitch.  Pracht then reached on an error by the first baseman, with Blanchard scoring from second on the play.  Senior left fielder Derek Wood stepped to the plate and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to pad the lead to 10-2.

Quinn-Irons kept the inning going with a single to right-center for his third hit of the game to put runners on the corners.  Pracht would scramble home on a passed ball to make it 11-2.
