FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior starter
Nick Martins pitched a complete-game, three-hitter in a 3-0 win over Fairfield in the first game of the series on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

Martins scattered three singles and struck out four batters in his first collegiate complete game. He faced just two batters over the minimum.

Mason (3-6) took the lead over Fairfield (0-7) with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second against Stags senior starter Colin McVeigh.

Connor Dykstra got the inning started with back-to-back singles. Sophomore third baseman
Evan Blanchard then dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position.

With two outs, graduate student second baseman
South Trimble ripped a two-run single into left field to put the Patriots in front.

Mason added a run in the home half of the fourth. With one out, Dykstra collected his second double of the season, a liner down the left field line. A batter later, junior shortstop
Carsen Pracht delivered with a two-out single to right-center to drive in the final run of the day to make the score 3-0.

For the Patriots, Martins (1-2) tossed the complete-game gem to earn his first win of the season.

For the Stags, McVeigh (0-1) allowed three runs on six hits in 6.0 innings and took the loss. Senior Blake Helmstetter pitched 3.0 hitless innings.

Trimble went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs, Pracht finished 1-for-2 and plated a run and Dykstra finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Bardatsos went 1-for-3 and scored a run.

The Patriots and Stags play the middle game of the series on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
