Patriots Compete in A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships Beginning Wednesday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action of Wednesday, competing in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 21-24 at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.

All four days of the A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The four-day competition will include a morning preliminary session and an evening final session, with the top 16 performers in each event advancing to the finals.

At the 2023 A-10 Championships, the Mason men's team finished second for the third straight year, while the Patriots' women's team placed third.

On the men's side, the George Washington Colonials won the Atlantic 10 Championship for the third straight year (783), with George Mason second (507.5) and Massachusetts third (458).  Davidson was fourth (456.5), followed by Fordham (408.5), St. Bonaventure (357), La Salle (278) and Saint Louis (188.5).

On the women's side, George Washington won the A-10 title for the second straight year (794.5), with Richmond second (479.5) and George Mason third (414).  Duquesne was fourth (413.5), followed by Fordham (413), Davidson (310), Massachusetts (255), La Salle (218.5), St. Bonaventure (190), Saint Louis (119) and Rhode Island (83).
 
The Mason women's team has finished among the top-three teams at the championships each of the last three years.

The Atlantic 10 Championships mark the final team competition of the season for the Patriots.

ABOUT THE PATRIOTS
 
The Mason men's team has 16 returners and nine newcomers on the roster under interim head coach Jamie Greenwood.
 
The Patriots' men's team has two seniors, five juniors and nine sophomores returning from last year's roster.  The returners are joined by nine newcomers for the 2023-24 season.
 
Returning for the Patriots are seniors Graham Boyle (Richmond, Va.) and Ian Castegnaro (Wolftrap, Va.).
 
Mason has five juniors with Joe Durocher (Fredericksburg, Va.), Tyler Lentine (Great Falls, Va.), Nicholas Maranto (Warrenton, Va.), Zane Roberts (Chesapeake, Va.) and Logan Skiles (Mechanicsburg, Va.).
 
The Patriots return nine sophomores with Aoun Al-Hiari (Alexandria, Va.), Tate Anderson (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.), Michael Bock (Apex, N.C.), Jack Chapman (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Max Fermayer (Weston, Fla.), Joshua Hochard (Bristow, Va.), Jett Lee (Centreville, Va.), Matt Quackenbush (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Sam Rivas (Richmond, Va.).
 
Mason added nine freshmen for the new campaign with Christian Anderson (Fairfax, Va.), Alex Crown (Gainesville, Va.), Mason Du (Annandale, Va.), Jack Graham (Williamsburg, Va.), Ian Jones (Fredericksburg, Va.), Colby Lane (Fairfax, Va.), Colin Murtaugh (Roanoke, Va.), Ian Rodgers (Newport News, Va.) and Cody Scifres (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
 
The Mason women's team has 18 returners and 12 newcomers on the roster.
 
The Patriots' women's team includes two seniors, 10 juniors and six sophomores.  They are joined by 12 freshmen for the 2023-24 season.
 
The Patriots are led by two seniors, Abigail Murtaugh (Roanoke, Va.) and Leah Riley (Newport News, Va.) and 10 juniors, Sydney Atkins (Huntingtown, Md.), Sydney Branch (Richmond, Va.), Emma Burke (Pearland, Texas), Emma DeJong (Winchester, Va.), Shannon Judge (Marlboro, Md.), Emma McDonald (Cabin John, Md.), Calli McEvoy (Henrico, Va.), Kylie Thompson (Richmond, Va.), Ali Tyler (Cheshire, Conn.) and Anka Whelan (Stafford, Va.)
 
Mason has six sophomores, Peyton Brehmer (Boerne, Texas), Maddie Hersh (McLean, Va.), Gracie Sweeney (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Ainsley Toews (Tifton, Ga.), Ally Yeary (Abingdon, Va.) and Angelina Zeidan (Cloverdale, Va.).
 
The Mason women's team added 12 freshmen with Megan Anderson (Blacksburg, Va.), Delainey Brandt (San Mateo, Calif.), Alayna Brooker (Aurora, Ohio), Sarah Dichak (Charlotte, N.C.), Carleigh Dillman (Richmond, Va.), Lauren Hargnett (Raleigh, N.C.), Kristen Ivey (Greenville, N.C.), Hannah Magdeburg (Pottsville, Pa.), Regan Mooney (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Clare Smith (Cary, N.C.), Faye Souza (Chatham, Va.) and Casey Tingen (Yorktown, Va.) each finishing their rookie year.
