FAIRFAX, Va. – Emma Starr converted her third goal of the season in the 84th minute to give the George Mason women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis Sunday afternoon. Mason has won two straight and three out of its last four matches with the win.
MATCH NOTES
-Saint Louis threatened in the 22nd minute when Maddie Pokorny forced Kirsten Glad into a save. Pokorny blasted a shot high that Glad punched away as the shot deflected off the crossbar and went over the goal.
-Alex Myers looked for the go-ahead tally in the 32nd minute. Myers received a pass from Sarah Hardison on the near side and took a shot that hit the right post and went out of play.
-Mason saw another solid opportunity from Erin Mitchell in the 35th minute. Mitchell carried it down the field and aimed right above the keeper, but the shot was just high over the goal.
-The teams ended the first half scoreless with Mason leading in shots 11-5, including a 4-1 shots on goal advantage.
-SLU looked for a play to open the second half as Livi Logan-Wood in the near corner found Cristina Rodriguez. Rodriguez tried to convert, but the shot went high over the goal.
-Saint Louis' Tori Marshall put a shot on goal at the 76:00 mark, looking for the bottom right corner, but Kirsten Glad was in position for the save.
-Mason broke through at the 83:45 mark with Emma Starr's third goal of the season. Down the line, Daniela Neves long-passed it off to Alex Myers who headed it back to Starr. Starr gained control of the ball and sent it over the goalkeeper's hands for the 1-0 lead.
-Mason closed out the victory 1-0 to pick up its third Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season.
