FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams compete in their first dual meet of the season, traveling to take on Towson on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Burdick Pool in Towson, Md.

Diving is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and swimming is slated to start at noon.

Last season, Mason swept Towson in the first dual meet of the year on Oct. 8, 2022 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

The Mason women's team won 10 of 16 events to defeat Towson, 145-133. The Patriots' men's team placed first in nine of 16 events on the way to a 159-139 victory over the Tigers.

On the women's side, the team of
Jacquee Clabeaux,
Leah Riley,
Ali Tyler and
Shannon Judge won the 200-yard medley relay (1:43.50).

In the 100-yard freestyle, Tyler took first place (51.29) and
Emma DeJong was second (52.90). Tyler also sprinted to a win in the 50-yard freestyle (23.24).

Clabeaux won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.44) with
Ainsley Toews second in the event (1:06.69). Clabeaux also won the 200-yard breastroke (2:20.38).

Abigail Murtaugh touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.74) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.05).

The Patriots went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle with
Madison Nalls first (1:52.61) and DeJong second (1:54.82). Nalls also won the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.57).

Anka Whelan took the top spot in both the 100-yard backstroke (56.53) and 200-yard backstroke (2:00.71).

Sydney Branch placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:54.81).Â
Emma McDonald took second in the one-meter diving event (213.45 pts.) and was third in the three-meter (212.70 pts.).
On the men's side,
Tate Anderson won the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.87), 200-yard backstroke (1:52.16) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.17).
Tyler Lentine touched the wall first in both the 100-yard breaststroke (56.59) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:03.29).Â
Zane Roberts won the 50-yard freestyle (20.88) and
Aoun Al-Hiari took first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.50).
In the diving events,
Ian Castegnaro placed second in both the one-meter (249.60 pts.) and three-meter (245.63).

THE PATRIOTS SCHEDULE

The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in eight events during the 2023-24 season, with three events at home including the annual Patriot Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
The Patriots opened the campaign against American, Georgetown, Howard and Mount St. Mary's at the Potomac Relay Invitational (Sept. 22), hosted by American University at the Reeves Aquatic Center in Washington, D.C.

The women's team placed second (300 points) and the men's team was third (304 points) in the event.
Mason will then travel to take on Towson (Oct. 7) at Burdick Pool in Towson, Md.
The Patriots face Atlantic 10 Conference opponents for the first time at the Richmond Duals (Oct. 13-14) held in Hampton, Va. Mason will face Davidson, Duquesne and Richmond in the two-day meet.
The Patriots return home for a two-day meet against Duquesne and La Salle (Oct. 27-28) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Mason stays in Fairfax to host the annual Patriot Invitational (Nov. 16-18) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
The Patriots will compete at the U.S. Open (Nov. 29-Dec. 2) in Greensboro, N.C.
The 2024 portion of the schedule begins with the Patriots on the road against James Madison and Fairfield (Jan. 13) in Harrisonburg, Va. The final road dual of the season has Mason at Old Dominion (Jan. 20) in Norfolk, Va.
The Patriots conclude the regular season with a home dual against UMBC (Jan. 27).
The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships will be held Feb. 21-24 at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., while the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be hosted by the University of Indiana in Indianapolis, Ind.
