FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will face Atlantic 10 opponents for the first time this season, competing against Davidson, Duquesne and Richmond at the Richmond Duals on Friday and Saturday.

The events will take place at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
Â
The Mason women's team will face Duquesne on Friday and then take on either Davidson or Richmond on Saturday.
Â
On the men's side, Mason and Davidson will compete in a single dual meet over both days.
Â
Last season at the Richmond Duals, the Patriots' women's team fell to Duquesne, 171.5-127.5, on the first day of competition and posted a 160.5-138.5 victory over Davidson on day two.

The men's team won its two-day dual against Davidson 205.5-166.5.

In their victory over the Wildcats, the women's team won eight events on day two with
Anka Whelan claiming both the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.80) and 400-yard IM (4:30.53).

Madison Nalls won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.05),
Jacquee Clabeaux touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.37),
Ali Tyler took first in both the 100-yard backstroke (55.97) and 100-yard freestyle (52.63) and
Abigail Murtaugh won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.33).

Nalls took second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.58) with
Gracie Sweeney fourth (5:17.40).

The Patriots swept both relay events against Davidson. The team of
Peyton Brehmer, Clabeaux, Murtaugh and Whelan won the 400-yard medley relay (3:51.60) and the combination of
Shannon Judge, Tyler, Brehmer and Clabeaux took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.72).

Last year on the first day of competition against Duquesne, the women's team won seven events with Murtaugh and Tyler each winning two individual events.

Tyler touched the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.59) and 200-yard IM (2:05.92). Murtaugh won both the 100-yard butterfly (57.22) and 200-yard butterfly (2:05.25).

Whelan won the 100-yard backstroke (56.60) and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.94).

Nalls won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.87), with
Emma DeJong third in the event (1:55.30). Nalls was also second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.71).

The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 100-yard freestyle with Tyler second (52.00), Judge third (53.11) and DeJong fourth (53.17).

Sweeney placed fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle (17.43.89) and
Sydney Branch was seventh (18:21.60).

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the group of Brehmer, DeJong, Judge and Nalls swam to victory (3:28.97).

On the men's side on day two at last year's event,
Tate Anderson won both the 50-yard backstroke (23.73) and 100-yard backstroke (50.37).Â

Tyler Lentine took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.93).Â
Aoun Al-Hiari placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (50.53) and third in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.99).

Josh Fletcher won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.25).

On day one, Roberts touched the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.25) and 100-yard freestyle (46.23). Anderson won the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.48) and was third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.33).

The Patriots took the top four spots in the 200-yard breaststroke with Lentine swimming to a first-place finish (2:04.98).

Mason also took first place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.57) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:05.10).

THE PATRIOTS SCHEDULE

The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in eight events during the 2023-24 season, with three events at home including the annual Patriot Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
The Patriots opened the campaign against American, Georgetown, Howard and Mount St. Mary's at the Potomac Relay Invitational (Sept. 22), hosted by American University at the Reeves Aquatic Center in Washington, D.C.

The women's team placed second (300 points) and the men's team was third (304 points) in the event.
Mason traveled to take on Towson (Oct. 7) at Burdick Pool in Towson, Md. The Patriots' women's team won two of 16 events and fell to the Tigers, 198-102. The Mason men's team finished first in six of 16 events but dropped a 189-105 decision to Towson.
The Patriots face Atlantic 10 Conference opponents for the first time at the Richmond Duals (Oct. 13-14) held in Hampton, Va. Mason will face Davidson, Duquesne and Richmond in the two-day meet.
The Patriots return home for a two-day meet against Duquesne and La Salle (Oct. 27-28) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Mason stays in Fairfax to host the annual Patriot Invitational (Nov. 16-18) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
The Patriots will compete at the U.S. Open (Nov. 29-Dec. 2) in Greensboro, N.C.
The 2024 portion of the schedule begins with the Patriots on the road against James Madison and Fairfield (Jan. 13) in Harrisonburg, Va. The final road dual of the season has Mason at Old Dominion (Jan. 20) in Norfolk, Va.
The Patriots conclude the regular season with a home dual against UMBC (Jan. 27).
The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships will be held Feb. 21-24 at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., while the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be hosted by the University of Indiana in Indianapolis, Ind.
