OLEAN, N.Y. – The George Mason University women's soccer team (1-7-3) will travel to Olean, N.Y., to take on St. Bonaventure (2-4-5) this Thursday, September 29.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Tom 80' and Michelle Marra Athletics Field Complex. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can also be followed on Live Stats.
The Patriots hope to secure a road win against an A-10 opponent, as they will be playing away games for the next two games this week. St. Bonaventure will be searching to win an A-10 game as well; they are currently 0-4 to start conference play.
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots played Fordham at home last Sunday, September 25. Mason took the lead in the first half, but Fordham would level the game with a goal of their own later in the half. The Rams would score the go-ahead goal in the second half. The score would remain the same for the rest of the game, and Fordham would go on to win 2-1.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
The Bonnies are currently on a four-game losing streak heading into Thursday night's game. They are coming off a 2-0 loss at Virginia Commonwealth last Thursday evening and lost to Davidson 3-0 the following Sunday afternoon. In the last four games, all of which were conference games, the Bonnies have been shutout and have been outscored by their opponents 8-0. The last time St. Bonaventure scored a goal was on September 7, when they played Canisius and tied 1-1.
Freshman forward Ami Komori leads the team in goals and in points. She has scored three goals and tallied seven points, as well as one assist to her name. Sophomore goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger has played in all 11 games this season. She has a goals-against average of 1.27 and has recorded 91 total saves.
St. Bonaventure finished their 2021 season 7-8-4 overall and 5-4-1 in the Atlantic 10. In the A-10 Tournament, they lost to UMass 5-1 in the first round.
HISTORY WITH THE BONNIES
Mason has matched up with St. Bonaventure a total of five times, with the first game dating back to November 7, 2013, in the A-10 Tournament Quarterfinals. The Bonnies would go on to win the game 1-0. Mason leads the head-to-head matchups against St. Bonaventure with a 3-2 record.
The last time these two teams met was last season at home on September 30, 2021, when the Patriots won 1-0. This will be the first time since September 27, 2019, that Mason will travel to Olean.
