RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason University women's soccer team (1-10-6) will play their last game of the season this Sunday, October 23, as they travel to face VCU (8-2-7).
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. It will be broadcast on

LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots are looking to build off a hard-fought
1-1 draw against La Salle last Thursday. After a scoreless first half, the Explorers opened the second half with a goal. However, junior forward
Ashley Shimberg netted her first goal of the season after a strike from the top of the box flew into the back of the net in the 60
th minute.
SCOUTING VCU
The Rams will also close out their regular season with heir matchup with the Patriots.
The Rams are coming off a 1-0 loss to #11 Saint Louis on Thursday, October 20. Before that loss, VCU was on a six-game win streak that started on September 22 that consisted of four shutouts and outscoring their opponents 13-4. Those wins all came against A-10 foes St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Richmond, Dayton, Loyola Chicago and Fordham.
Freshman midfielder/defender Kendyl Sarver leads the team in goals and points. In her standout rookie season where she has started every game, Sarver has eight goals and two assists totaling 18 points. She earned this week's A-10 Rookie of the Week honor for contributing to her team's win over Fordham, where she scored a goal.
Sophomore forward Kanna Matsuhisa leads the team in assists, where she has six. Along with her three goals, she has 12 points to her name, good for second most on the team. She also collected A-10 Offensive Player of the week honors last week.
HISTORY WITH THE RAMS
Mason has a deep history with their in-state rival VCU. The two schools have faced each other a total of 31 times, and Mason holds a firm edge on the series, going 15-10-6.
The first game between the two dates back to September 16, 1996, when the Patriots won 8-1, the largest margin of victory between the two schools. More recently, the
Rams won the last meeting 4-1 in Fairfax last season.
This will be the first time the Patriots will travel to Richmond to play VCU since
September 23, 2018.
