FAIRFAX, Va. – Mason graduate student third baseman
Cooper Mrowka powered the Patriots to a walk-off win in game one of a doubleheader against Towson. The Patriots and Tigers split the twin bill on Saturday afternoon at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.
The Patriots won the first game, 10-9, while the Tigers took the second game, 5-1.
GAME ONE
The Patriots (4-9) fell behind when Towson (5-16) scored three runs on four hits in the top of the second against Mason freshman starter
Kieran Versaw-Barnes.
With one out, Tigers freshman catcher Burke Camper singled and freshman designated hitter Bryce Frederick doubled to put runners on second and third. Sophomore left fielder Matt Arceo then doubled to left to put Towson in front, 2-0.
After a single put runners on the corners, freshman shortstop Danny Becerra reached on a throwing error, with Arceo scoring on the play to make it a 3-0 game.
The Patriots responded in the home half of the second, sending 10 batters to the plate against Tigers junior starter Nick Janowicz.
Mrowka led off with a walk and graduate student catcher
Kyle Hayes was hit by a pitch. With one out, sophomore shortstop
Brett Stallings drove in his second run of the season with a single to left to cut the lead to 3-1.

South Trimble kept the inning moving with a walk to load the bases. With two out, senior designated hitter
Scott Morgan hammered a bases-clearing triple to the gap in right-center to put the Patriots in front, 4-3.

Ryan Stoudemire delivered back-to-back RBI doubles to make the score 6-3.
Towson graduate student reliever Kody Reeser recorded the final out of the inning. He allowed just two hits over the next five innings.
The Tigers posted a single run in the seventh on a RBI-single, and another run in the eighth with a bases loaded walk to cut the Patriots lead to 6-5.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Patriots loaded the bases for Trimble, who drove in a pair of runs with his third single of the game to increase the advantage to 8-5.
Towson sent nine batters to the plate in the ninth and scored four runs on four hits and two walks to go back in front, 9-8. Becerra had the big hit in the inning, a two-out single to the gap in right-center to plate three runs.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Stoudemire singled up the middle to set the stage for Mrowka, who smashed a two-run, walk-off home run over the left-center field fence to lift the Patriots to the 10-9 victory.
For the Patriots, Versaw-Barnes allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits in 6.0 innings in a no-decision. Junior
Nick Zegna gave up two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings, while classmate
Stuart Barrett surrendered four runs on three hits in 1.1 innings. Junior
Mason Posey (2-1) retired the one batter he faced in the ninth and earned the win.
For the Tigers, Janowicz allowed six runs on six hits in 1.2 innings in a no-decision. Reeser gave up two runs on four hits in 6.0 innings of work. Junior Jake Pecilunas (0-2) allowed two runs on two hits and took the loss.
Trimble went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored a run. Klein, Stallings and Stoudemire each had two hits, one RBI and scored a run. Morgan drove in three runs and Mrowka plated two runs.
GAME TWO (7 INNINGS)
Towson (6-15) took the lead over Mason (4-10) in the third inning against Stoudemire, who made his fifth start of the season for the Patriots.
Graduate student right fielder Billy Godrick was hit by a pitch and junior second baseman Nolan Young singled. With one out, senior left fielder Noah Cabrera knocked in a run with a single to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
After a walk loaded the bases, Terao drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and the Tigers would add another run on an error to make it 3-0.
The Tigers posted a single run in the fifth on a RBI-double by Terao, and added another in the sixth when Terao was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 5-0.
Towson junior starter Danny Madden allowed just three hits over the first five innings.
The Patriots dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Trimble led off with a walk, and with one out, Morgan singled. Klein then drew a walk to load the bases. Mrowka pushed a run across the plate with a walk for the only run of the game.
For the Patriots, Stoudemire (1-4) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out a season-high seven in 4.0 innings and took the loss. Junior
Matthew Henson gave up two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Freshman
Sang Ho Baek tossed 1.1 scoreless.
For the Tigers, Madden (1-2) allowed one run on five hits in 6.0 innings and earned the win. Sophomore Cam Clark and senior Austin Weber pitched in the seventh.
The Patriots and Tigers wrap up the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
