FAIRFAX, Va. –The George Mason men's volleyball team (9-7, 4-3 EIVA) will face off against Charleston (W.Va.) (4-11, 2-5 EIVA) in a conference showdown on Saturday, March 7 in the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC). First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The last time these two conference teams competed the Patriots defeated the Golden Eagles on the road, winning in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-21).
The Patriots are coming off of a four-set road victory over Saint Francis (Pa.). After falling in the first set (17-25), the Green & Gold quickly bounced back and took three straight sets to earn their fourth conference win of the season.
Senior Sam Greenslade took control of the match leading the Patriots with (12) kills, (3) aces and (11) digs. Alongside Greenslade, redshirt junior Jack Reese made his presence known with (10) kills off of (11) attempts and (6) blocks.
Mason currently ranks third in the EIVA, moving up a spot after a tough week for Harvard. The Patriots also remain the No. 15 seed in the most recent AVCA Coaches' Top 15 poll.
SCOUTING CHARLESTON (4-11, 2-5 EIVA)
The Golden Eagles currently hold an overall record of 4-11, including six straight road losses. Charleston has played seven conference contests this season, winning only a pair. The Golden Eagles fell short their last time out on February 29, dropping a road match to Penn State in straight sets (25-11, 25-20, 25-16).
Charleston is led by sophomore Max Senica who leads the Golden Eagles with 191 kills (2.25 kills per set), 2.67 points per set and third on the team with 17 service aces.
The Patriots have not lost to the Golden Eagles, holding an all-time record of 10-0 against Charleston losing only one set in the 10 contests versus the West Virginia program.
