FAIRFAX, Va. - Four Mason men's volleyball student-athletes earn All-EIVA honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Redshirt Junior Jack Reese earned his first career All-EIVA first team selection, while senior duo Bryce Gatling and Sam Greenslade each earned All-EIVA second team commendations. Redshirt sophomore Mike Kapusta earned his second straight EIVA All-Academic honor.
In Reese's first All-Conference first team campaign, the middle blocker recorded 118 kills on 208 attempts, hitting .428 on the season. Reese led the Patriots in solo blocks (11) and total blocks (60) in 63 sets played. The Pittsburgh native earned an EIVA Defensive Player of the Week award (Jan. 6) early in the season. Reese is a two-time All-EIVA second team selection (2018 & 2019) with 2020 being his third consecutive All-Conference postseason selection.
It was a breakout season for Gatling in his first All-Conference season, earning career highs in multiple categories in just a 17-game season in 2020. The Norfolk, Va. native earned 93 kills on 160 attempts for a hitting percentage of .544. Gatling finished second on the squad with a career high 10 solo blocks to go along with 47 total blocks. Gatling was one of three Patriots to earn a perfect 1.000 in reception percentage on the year.
Greenslade earns his first career second team All-EIVA selection. The Millersville, Pa. native recorded a team high in both kills (164) and digs (127) in 63 sets played. Greenslade's 2.02 digs per set ranked him fourth in the conference to end the year. In a season with an ever-changing lineup, Greenslade was a consistent presence at the outside position for the Patriots, starting and playing in all 63 sets as a captain for Mason.
Kapusta received his second straight EIVA All-Academic honor after posting a 3.37 grade point average in his major of Management. On the court, Kapusta played only four sets before being sidelined for the remainder of the season with an injury. In the short time Kapusta played, the Bethel Park, Pa. native recorded eight kills (2.0 kills per set) and a block assist. Kapusta notched six kills in the Patriots' season opener against No. 2 UCLA.
