FAIRFAX, Va. - The 12th ranked George Mason men's volleyball team (4-4, 0-0) fell in three sets (18-25, 21-25, 24-26) versus No. 6 Lewis (7-3, 0-0) on Saturday night inside the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).

"Hats off to Lewis, they played a very physical match against us tonight that we did not respond well to," head coach Jay Hosack said. "We will learn a lot tonight about what we have to do to beat teams that are more physical than we are. We are not the most physical team in the country and that's okay, we didn't claim to be and don't care to be, but in order for us to be successful we have to control a little bit better on those first contacts."

Senior Sam Greenslade led the Patriots with eight kills and a service ace, while sophomore Richie Hoff earned seven kills, a team high nine digs and a service ace of his own. Hoff's nine digs were two away from his career high (11) in the category (Purdue Fort Wayne; Jan. 25, 2020).

As a team, Mason recorded an attacking percentage of .205 on the night, 28 kills, 12 attacking errors on 78 attempts. Throughout the night, the Patriots were unable to capitalize on the Flyers' lack of production serving, as Lewis tallied 20 service errors to Mason's seven. The Flyers, led by redshirt senior Ryan Coenen (20 kills), notched 50 kills on 87 attempts and out-blocked the Patriots 9-5 in Mason's final home match of their first home stand on the year.

"We were not as crisp as we should have been in those first contacts," Hosack said. "We will get after it this week in practice and be better next week."
