No. 12 Ranked Patriots Host Ball State, No. 11 Purdue Fort Wayne

FAIRFAX, Va. - The No.12 ranked George Mason men's volleyball team (2-2, 0-0) is set to host Ball State on Thursday, Jan. 23, and No. 11 Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, Jan. 25. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. ET inside the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).

 

The Patriots are coming off of a 3-1 upset over then-No. 8 Pepperdine (25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21) last Friday.
 

Sophomore Richie Hoff led the way for the Patriots with a career high and match high 12 kills, coupled with seven digs, a service ace, a block and an assist on the night. Senior Sam Greenslade was a force on the defensive end, as he earned a season high nine digs and tied with redshirt junior Jack Reese for a team high eight total blocks. Fellow redshirt junior Bradley Creamer and Hoff each earned 13.5 points apiece against the Waves.
 

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (3-1, 0-0) 

Ball State is coming off of a west coast trip which they split 1-1. The Cardinals defeated Cal State Northridge 3-2, followed by a straight set loss at No. 4 UC Santa Barbara.
 

Senior Matt Szews leads Ball State with 41 kills, 53.5 points and seven service aces. Against UC Santa Barbara, senior Matt Szews broke the all-time service aces record in the rally-scoring era at Ball State University. Szews now has 112 career service aces.
 

The Cardinals currently lead the all-time series against the Patriots 43-27.
 

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS (3-1, 0-0) 

Purdue Fort Wayne is coming off their first loss of the season at No. 4 UC Santa Barbara, falling in straight sets to the fourth ranked team in the nation. The Mastodons will play NJIT on Thursday, Jan. 23, before traveling south to face the Patriots on Saturday. 
 

Purdue Fort Wayne is led by freshman Jon Diedrich, who has earned a team leading 60 kills. His brother, Richie Diedrich, currently leads the Mastodons in blocks (11).


Purdue Fort Wayne leads the head-to-head series against the Patriots 22-26.
