Patriots Take Down No. 8 Pepperdine on Friday Night

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason men's volleyball team (2-2, 0-0) defeated No. 8 Pepperdine in four sets (25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21) on Friday night inside the RAC.

"Even though we were down 3 starters, we always talk about the next man stepping up," head coach Jay Hosack said. "I couldn't be more proud of our boys and how much they just flat out competed tonight."

Sophomore Richie Hoff led the way for the Patriots with a career high and match high 12 kills, coupled with seven digs, a service ace, a block and an assist on the night. Senior Sam Greenslade was a force on the defensive end, as he earned a season high nine digs and tied with redshirt junior Jack Reese for a team high eight total blocks. Fellow redshirt junior Bradley Creamer and Hoff each earned 13.5 points apiece against the Waves.

After a strong first set by the Patriots, the Waves battled back and controlled the second set to a 25-17 victory.

In the third set, Mason found themselves down 14-9 early. After the finding themselves in the five-point hole, the Patriots outscored Pepperdine 16-6 in the final 22 points to win the set 25-20. Mason did not look back after the comeback set. The Patriots never trailed in the final set, growing their lead to as big as seven in the fourth game.

The Patriots are set to host Ball State on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. ET inside the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).
