Mason Earns Home Victory Against Binghamton

FAIRFAX, Va. –
The George Mason women's soccer team defeated Binghamton (4-2) by a score of 2-0 Sunday, at George Mason Stadium.

 

Junior Sara Chontosh got the scoring started for the Patriots right out of the halftime break in the 47th minute.  Fellow junior, Jisca Adigo, earned an assist, along with sophomore defender Keri Yoon.

 

The Patriots continued their offensive attack in the 56th minute, as Adigo earned her first goal of her junior campaign off of a deflection goal after redshirt junior Emily Bradshaw earned a shot on goal.  Sophomore Emma van der Vorst recorded her third assist of the year on that goal as well. 

 

Redshirt senior Morgan Symmers saved two shots on the way to winning her 14th career outing in net for Mason. Junior goalkeeper Louisa Moser made her 2019 debut in the 71st minute, making one save.

 

HOW THEY SCORED

 

47' | Chontosh scores in the second minute of the second half. Assist by Adigo and Yoon.

 

56' | Bradshaw earns a shot on goal, Adigo receives the rebound off of the keeper and scores into the lower left corner of the net. van der Vorst records the second assist on the play.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

 

The Patriots earned 15 shots (five on goal) and their defense surrendered only five total shots. Mason notched a 5-4 edge over the Bearcats in corner kicks. Binghamton was also issued two yellow cards in the contest.

 

The Patriots' defense pitched a shutout in shots in the first half, as the Bearcats did not record a shot until the 48th minute. Mason recorded nine total shots in the second half (including the two second half goals), with four shots on goal. The Patriots also earned all of their five corner kicks in the second half.

 

UP NEXT

 

Mason hits the road, as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to battle James Madison on Thursday, Sept. 12, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
