The Patriots Travel to Maryland for Thursday Night Matchup

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team hits the road on Thursday to take on Maryland (2-2-0), with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
 
This will be the 24th matchup between the two schools, with the Terrapins earning a 16-6-1 series record against the Patriots (0-2-1).
 
In Mason's last outing, the team ended at a 2-2 stalemate with UCF, going 110 minutes without a game-winning goal in both overtime halves. Mason recorded seven total shots (three on goal) and four corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Morgan Symmers earned three saves in her second start of the season.
 
Forward Emma van der Vorst put her first goal of her sophomore campaign in the back of the net, while freshman Grace Hotaling earned her first collegiate goal, tying the game in the 65th minute.
 
The Terrapins started off the 2019 season with two closely contested victories. Since their latest victory against NJIT, Maryland has dropped their last two games, getting outscored 9-0.
 
In their last contest, the Terrapins fell to Georgia by a score of 0-5. Maryland earned six shots on goal (nine total shots), two corner kicks and five saves.
 
In the team's first four games, Maryland has out-shot their opponents 64-42, with 29 total shots in both the first and second half (with the remaining six shots coming in overtime periods).
 
Maryland is led by junior twins, Malikae Dayes and Mikayla Dayes, who were named Big Ten Players to Watch for the 2019 season. The Terrapins finished their 2018 season with an overall record of 4-10-5 and a 2-7-2 record in Big Ten play.
