FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team ended their second home game of the season with a 2-2 tie against UCF (0-1-2) on Sunday at George Mason Stadium.
The Knights' forward Dayana Martin got the scoring started in the 3
rd minute, as the sophomore got UCF out to an early one-goal advantage.
The Patriots (0-2-1) answered in the 9
th minute. Sophomore
Emma van der Vorst netted her first goal of the season after junior
Kayla Hamric penetrated the Knights defense and served up an assist for the 2018 Atlantic Offensive Player of the Year with a header.
The match remained tied at one goal apiece heading into the half.
In the second half of play, UCF responded in the 53
rd minute, as forward Kristen Scott earned her first goal of her sophomore campaign. The Knights regained their previous one-goal advantage.
In the 65
th minute,
Grace Hotaling earned her first collegiate goal. The freshman played a ball right outside of the center circle, turned, and fired a deep shot right over the goalkeeper's head to tie the game at 2-2.
"That was really skillful," head coach
Todd Bramble said of Hotaling's goal. "Great awareness from her to recognize the keeper was out and hit that shot. Really happy for her getting that first goal."
The score remained the same for the remaining 45 minutes, as the two programs ended the contest at a stalemate in 110 minutes of play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Knights led the Patriots in shots, 18-7, with three of those 18 coming in the two overtime periods. UCF also earned a 5-3 edge on Mason in shots on goal. Each team accumulated four corner kicks, while the Patriots' goal keeper,
Morgan Symmers, earned three saves to the Knights' one.
