NORFOLK, Va.
- In the first official match of the season, the George Mason women's soccer team fell to Old Dominion, 3-1, on Sunday at the ODU Soccer Complex.

Old Dominion junior midfielder Loes Van Loon gave the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of play on a give and go from fellow junior Amanda Nhek.

The Monarchs increased their lead in the 57th minute, as Nhek put one of her own in the back of the net, earning her second goal of the season.

In the very next minute, freshman midfielder Ece Turkoglu earned her first collegiate goal, putting Old Dominion up by three.

The Patriots scored off of the foot of Emily Bradshaw in the 85th minute, as she was assisted by senior Gabriela Rivera and sophomore Emma van der Vorst. Despite the goal, the Patriots could not complete the comeback and fell to the Monarchs 3-1.

"We are leaving here tonight with mixed emotions," head coach Todd Bramble said. "We are certainly disappointed with the results, but we are not overly disappointed with the performance of our team. The timing of Old Dominion's first goal was unfortunate, coming against the run of play, but we are really happy with the way our team responded. There is still a lot to be optimistic about with our team."
