FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's soccer sophomore forward
Emma van der Vorst (
@EvdV_070) has been named to the preseason All-Atlantic 10 First Team.
Coming off of a stellar freshman campaign, van der Vorst represents the Patriots on the preseason all-conference team for the first time in her collegiate career. During her first season in 2018, the forward led the Atlantic 10 in goals (14) and points (32). She ranked fourth in the conference in shots on goal (33) and shots (62).
van der Vorst scored in 14 of the last 17 matches in 2018. She also recorded a point in 16 straight matches, breaking the program record of nine straight games with a point, last set in over two seasons in 1999-2000.
The Hague, Netherlands native set the program record for goals in consecutive games, scoring for the eighth straight match in Mason's 2-0 victory over George Washington on Sept. 27. The goal-scoring streak stretched from Aug. 30 – Sept. 27 and eclipsed the previous program record of seven straight games with a goal.
van der Vorst's six game-winning goals rank 13th in program history.
The Patriots open their regular season with back-to-back road games, starting with a matchup against East Carolina on Aug. 22 in Greenville, N.C.
