Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

FAIRFAX, Va. – Building off momentum gained from an exciting overtime victory on Friday night, the George Mason women's lacrosse team jumped out of the gate Sunday and never looked back.

The Patriots scored nine straight goals to open the game on their way to a 20-6 rout of La Salle at George Mason Stadium on a warm spring afternoon.

Freshman Deanna Balsama scored a career-high five goals and junior Hailey Johnson and sophomore Abby Folker each notched hat tricks with three goals apiece. Nine Mason players scored, with six recording multiple goals, and junior Julianna Brown dished out a career-high four assists.

The Patriots (6-4, 2-0 Atlantic 10) won their second straight after knocking off defending A-10 champ Richmond on Friday in overtime at George Mason Stadium. The 20 goals were Mason's most since scoring 23 against VCU last April.

Senior Chachi Kelehan, junior Morgan Rynn and sophomore Niki Baker each scored two goals. Sophomores Christina Romano and Melissa Capri and freshman Phoebe Nelson also scored. The three goals were a career high for Folker, who also had two caused turnovers, a ground ball and a draw control.

La Salle (3-6, 0-2) committed 19 turnovers – compared to just six by Mason – and was outshot 28-21. Junior Melissa Semkiw allowed just two goals and made three saves as she played 30 minutes. Senior Elizabeth Benedetto took over after halftime and made two saves and allowed six goals.

The Patriots hit the road to play A-10 power and defending co-regular season champ Massachusetts at 3 p.m. on Friday in Amherst, Mass.
