FAIRFAX, Va. – In the final day of the Mason Invitational, George Mason softball fell in its lone game to the East Carolina Pirates, 7-2. The Patriots drop to 7-12 overall while East Carolina avenges Saturday's extra-inning loss to Mason to improve to 18-11.

Mason and East Carolina both saw success offensively, each registering nine hits in the contest. However, the Patriots struggled to send their players home, leaving eight runners on base. Mason scored its two runs off RBI singles by Alyssa Lawton and Sydnee Wells. Lawton and Wells registered two hits in four at-bats for the Green & Gold.

In the bottom of the first, Meghan Graham, Wells and Liz Seymour started the inning with singles. Wells' first hit of the game scored Graham to cut ECU's lead to one, 2-1. Neither team would score in the second or third innings.

East Carolina erupted for four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning to lead 6-1. Mason committed two of its five errors in the inning.

The Patriots threatened in the bottom of the fourth after Adriana Erickson and Marissa Butts drew walks and freshman Hannah Thomas notched her first career hit. Lawton, stepping up to the plate with two outs on the scoreboard, singled up the middle to score Erickson. Ultimately, ECU would record the final out to leave the score 6-2.

East Carolina tacked on one final run in the top of the fifth. Pitcher Haellie Gordon recorded her sixth loss of the season while relief pitcher Marina Vitalich struck out two batters in 3.2 innings of work.

Thomas notched two hits in the contest while Erickson recorded Mason's only extra-base hit with a double in the bottom of the sixth.
