FAIRFAX, Va. – Five members of the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams earned Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors.
Blaine Lacey was tabbed the A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week while
Ashley Lewis shared the Women's Track Performer honors.
Cason Gardner and Annabelle Eastman were tabbed A-10 Men's and Women's Rookie of the Weeks, respectively.
Benjamin Viau was named the A-10 Men's Field Performer of the Week. It marked the second time this season that Lacey, Lewis, Gardner and Viau have earned A-10 honors.
Lacey placed fifth in the 800-meter run on Saturday at the Scarlet & White Invitational at Boston University. The senior from Chesapeake, Va., ran a time of 1:49.93, which is the fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this year and ranks 31st in the country. He also ran a leg on one of George Mason's 4x400-meter relay teams that finished 12th in 3:25.48.
Lewis posted the best times in the Atlantic 10 this season in two events at the Scarlet & White Invitational in her hometown of Boston. The junior finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.71, which is the fastest time in the A-10 and ranks 16th in the nation this year. She also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second in an A-10 best time of 3:40.22.
Viau broke his own school record in winning the weight throw at the Crimson Elite Invitational on Friday at Harvard. The sophomore from Lititz, Pa., heaved a toss of 18.05 meters to finish first. It broke his previous school record of 17.60 meters, which he set in the season opener last month. It currently ranks as the second-best throw in the A-10 this year. He also placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 14.60 meters at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday at Boston University.
Gardner won the high jump at the Scarlet & White Invitational. The freshman from Mechanicsville, Va., won the event with a leap of 2.04 meters. He also finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.69 meters the previous day at the Crimson Elite Invitational.
Eastman placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run at the Scarlet & White Invitational. Eastman, who just arrived on campus from Hampton, Australia, posted the second-fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this year in 9:39.53. It also ranks as sixth-fastest time in program history.
