FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team fell in straight sets on Friday night to revolutionary rival George Washington. The Patriots move to 4-20 overall and 0-12 in conference play.
The Colonials (14-12, 7-5 A-10) clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championships with their victory over the Patriots. Both teams will round out the regular season against Rhode Island and Fordham next weekend.
Sophomore opposite
ShaLi Niu notched a team-high eight kills to go along with a match-high 10 digs. Senior
Katrina Santos added seven kills and three blocks in the loss.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Colonials outhit the Patriots .281 to .143 in the first set. Niu's five kills in the frame were not enough as the Patriots fell 25-22.
- George Washington finished the second set on a 7-1 run to take the frame, 25-19.
- The third set saw 17 ties and six lead changes. With the match tied at 23 apiece, GW rattled off two straight points to claim the stanza, 25-23.
- Freshman Marley Willard impressed behind the service line, propelling Mason on scoring runs while tabbing three service aces.
- Peyton Ehmke, Bailey Williams and Siron Hardy each added five kills. Ehmke hit .364 in the match while Williams tabbed a clip of .300.
- The Colonials outhit the Patriots, .330 to .202, and outblocked them, 8.0 to 5.5.

Mason will conclude the 2019 season with a pair of home matches next weekend – Rhode Island (Nov. 15) and Fordham (Nov. 16). The Patriots will honor Williams, Santos and
Kelly Fagan with a pregame ceremony prior to Saturday's match against Fordham.
