FAIRFAX, Va. – In its season finale, the George Mason women's volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-set match to Fordham on Saturday night. It was Senior Night at the RAC as the Patriots honored
Bailey Williams,
Kelly Fagan and
Katrina Santos for their contributions over the past four years.
In her final match for the Green & Gold, Williams took control of the match, posting a career-high 24 kills to go along with 22 digs. It marked the 29th double-double of her career and seventh of the season.
The Patriots posted 118 team digs – the second most in program history. Six Patriots recorded double-digit digs; Williams (22),
Stephanie Der (22),
Erin Derick (20),
ShaLi Niu (14) and
Emily Konchan (11).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- 13 of Williams' 24 kills came in the first two sets of play.
- Setters Derick and Konchan each recorded double-doubles. Derick dished out 28 assists and posted 20 digs while Konchan added 21 assists and 11 digs.
- Santos added four kills and six digs while Fagan posted five kills on Senior Night.
- Fordham outblocked Mason, 12.0 to 3.0.
- Each team registered six service aces, including four from junior Alessia Del Romano.
- The Rams outhit the Patriots, .199 to .084. Mason tabbed its highest clip in the second frame (.148) with 16 team kills.
- Mason notched 15 team kills in the fourth set compared to Fordham's mark of eight. But the Rams only had three attacking errors in the frame while Mason tallied 12.
- Mason went to five sets for the second straight night, eventually falling to the Rams in the final frame 15-9.
