Patriots Wrap Up Road Slate with VCU and Davidson

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team wraps up the road slate of its 2019 schedule with a pair of matches at VCU and Davidson this weekend. On Friday, the Patriots will take on the VCU Rams, who are unbeaten in conference play, at 6 p.m. at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Va.
 
In its final road match of the season, Mason will play Davidson at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots suffered road losses to Saint Louis and Dayton last weekend to move to 4-17 and 0-9 in conference play. 
 
In Mason's five-set loss to Saint Louis, senior Bailey Williams tabbed her fifth double-double of the season in route to one of the best performances of her career. The outside hitter hit a career-high .432 with 18 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore ShaLi Niu added 16 kills and four blocks while Peyton Ehmke posted five blocks and nine kills.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
VCU (17-5, 8-0)
The Rams have won 11 straight matches, including seven straight sweeps over conference opponents, to sit at 17-5 overall and 8-0 in conference play. 
 
Senior Jasmin Sneed ranks first in the nation in blocks per set (1.73). The middle blocker has tabbed Atlantic 10 Defensive of the Week honors four times this season.
 
Last season, the Patriots snapped VCU's 13-game winning streak to hand the Rams their lone conference loss of the season on Nov. 3, 2018 in Fairfax, Va. It marked the Rams' first A-10 loss in over 29 matches, a streak dating back to 2016.
 
Davidson (9-12, 4-4)
Last time out, Davidson fell in four sets to La Salle on Oct. 25. The Wildcats responded with a straight-set win over Duquesne on Oct. 27 to improve to 4-4 in Atlantic 10 play. 
 
Middle hitter Madeline Wynn was recently named A-10 Rookie of the Week for a fourth time this season. She averaged 2.57 kills and 1.71 blocks per set, totaling 18 kills and 12 blocks, over two matches.
 
The Patriots and Wildcats split the season series in 2018. The Wildcats earned a four-set win over the Patriots on Oct. 14, 2018 in Davidson, N.C. Mason bounced back with a Senior Night sweep on Nov. 2, 2018 in Fairfax, Va.
