FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team put up a valiant effort on Saturday night, but ultimately fell in four sets to La Salle. The Patriots move to 4-15 overall and 0-7 in Atlantic 10 play.
La Salle earned the season sweep over Mason to improve to 9-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Up next, Mason will hit the road for four straight matches, beginning with a pair of matches at Saint Louis (Oct. 25) and Dayton (Oct. 27) next weekend.
Sophomore middle blocker
Peyton Ehmke put together her best performance of the season with a season-high 15 kills at a season-best clip of .565. She also added five blocks, two solo, in the loss.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Patriots held the advantage in blocks, 9.0 to 5.5, including four solo stuffs.
- La Salle scored seven straight points in the opening frame to lead 12-5. The Explorers hit .467 in the first set to cruise to the win, 25-17.
- The Patriots even the second set, 19-19, but the Explorers responded with a 6-1 scoring run to take the frame, 25-20.
- Mason jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the third set, resulting in a dominant 25-14 set win. Ehmke registered six of her 15 kills in the third set of play (.750 pct).
- The Patriots cut the Explorers' lead to one in the fourth set, 22-21. Out of the La Salle timeout, the Explorers scored three straight points to win the final frame, 25-21.
- Junior Katrina Santos added four kills with no attacking errors (.308 pct) and two blocks.
