Patriots at Home Against Duquesne and La Salle

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team remains at home with a pair of matches against Duquesne (Oct. 18) and La Salle (Oct. 19) this weekend. The Patriots take on Duquesne Friday night at the RAC. First serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
On Saturday, Mason wraps up its four-match homestand against La Salle at 7 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots fall in straight sets to Dayton and Saint Louis to move to 0-5 in Atlantic 10 play. Sophomore Siron Hardy led the Patriots with a team-high 10 kills at a .280 clip while senior Bailey Williams added six kills and ten digs in Friday's setback to Dayton.
 
Against Saint Louis, sophomore Peyton Ehmke hit .400 in the match with six kills and no attacking errors. Debuting a new rotation, the Patriots had several new faces step up in the match. Sophomore Katie Parmalee saw her first action of the season, posting four kills, three digs and one block. 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Duquesne
In its lone match last weekend, Duquesne earned a five-set win over La Salle to improve to 2-3 in A-10 play. The Dukes overcame a 2-0 set deficit to take the match in five.
 
Senior middle blocker Liz Wayne is hitting .377 overall – good for second in the Atlantic 10. 
 
Earlier this season, Mason suffered a road loss to the Dukes, 3-0, on Oct. 6 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Senior Bailey Williams tallied nine kills at a .400 clip in the loss. 
 
With the win, Duquesne tied the all-time series record, 7-7.
 
La Salle
La Salle suffered a five-set setback to Duquesne on Friday night to move to 2-3 in conference play. The following night, the Explorers bounced back with a five-set win over BIG EAST foe Villanova to improve to 8-9 overall.
 
Freshman Rachel Hess was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 14 for the second time this season. The libero posted 51 digs and four aces in the 1-1 weekend.
 
Earlier this season, La Salle defeated Mason in straight sets on Oct. 4 in Philadelphia, Pa. Junior Alessia Del Romano collected career highs in kills (9) and blocks (4). Sophomore setter Erin Derick recorded her seventh double-double of the season (26a/10d).
 
The Patriots are looking for their first win over the Explorers since Sept. 24, 2017 when Mason earned a five-set road win over the Explorers.
