FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason freshman forward
Emma van der Vorst has been selected Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It's the second time this season that van der Vorst has earned the honor.
A native of Amsterdam, van der Vorst scored in both games last week, netting the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute in Mason's 2-1 victory over Dayton on Thursday, Sept. 20. She tallied the lone goal of the game for the Patriots in the seventh minute at VCU on Sunday, Sept. 23.
The rookie forward has scored a goal in seven straight games, equaling the program record for goals in consecutive games. She joins Jenn Gross (1993) and Katy Robertson (1999-00) as the only Mason women's soccer players in program history to score a goal in seven straight matches.
Emma van der Vorst is tied for the A-10 lead in goals (7) and points (15). She has scored on seven of her 13 shots on goal this season.
Mason (6-4-0) returns to action on Thursday against George Washington with the kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
