FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team is back on the road, facing VCU on Sunday with the kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. at SportsBackers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
Last time out, Mason (6-3-0, 1-0-0 A-10) improved to 4-1-0 at home with a 2-1 victory over Dayton in the Atlantic 10 opener on Thursday.
Freshman forward
Emma van der Vorst scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. She has scored in six straight games, the second-longest goal-scoring streak in program history.
Sophomore midfielder
Kayla Hamric tallied her second goal in as many games in the sixth minute of play against the Flyers to give the Patriots and early advantage.
The Patriots have won five of their last six matches and have scored the first goal of the game in four straight contests.
Emma van der Vorst is tied for the A-10 lead in goals (6) and ranks third in the conference in points (13). Hamric is second on the team in goals (2) and points (6).
Mason graduate students
Jewel Christian and
Gabriela Rivera, along with senior
Rebecca Callison, are tied for the team lead in assists (3).
Mason redshirt junior goalkeeper
Morgan Symmers (6-2-0, 1.51) made two saves in each half in the victory over Dayton on Thursday. She is tied for the A-10 lead in wins by a goalkeeper (6).
The Patriots and Rams met twice during the 2017 season, with both games at George Mason Stadium. Mason defeated VCU, 1-0 in the regular season on Oct. 8, but fell to the Rams, 2-1 on Oct. 29 in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals.
In their last visit to SportsBackers Stadium, the Patriots downed the Rams 4-1 on Oct. 20, 2016. Forward

SCOUTING VCU
The Rams have an overall record of 6-2-0. VCU has a mark of 2-1-0 at home, 3-1-0 on the road and 1-0-0 in games played at a neutral site.
VCU defeated St. Bonaventure 3-0 on Thursday at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex in Olean, N.Y.
Sophomore midfielder Samantha Jerabek tallied two goals, while junior midfielder Alyssa Tallent also scored for the Rams.
Jerabek is tied for second in the A-10 in goals (5) and is tied for seventh in points (11). VCU senior forward Kelly Graves is second in the club in goals (2) and points (5).
Senior goalkeeper Audrey Sanderson (6-2-0, 1-0-0 A-10) is tied for the conference lead in wins (6) and is tied for second in the A-10 in shutouts (4).
Last season, the sixth-seeded Rams advanced to the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship title game, falling to top-seeded La Salle, 1-0, in double-overtime on Nov. 5, 2017 at SportsBackers Stadium.
