NEW YORK – George Mason had its season come to a close on Wednesday in New York by dropping two games in the double-elimination Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Sophomore Bekah Ansbro pitched a total of 11 innings over the course of the two games and logged 14 strikeouts. That pushed her season total of whiffs to 127 and is the fifth most by a Patriot in a single season.

RS-junior Liz Seymour made another mark in the record book with a fifth inning hit against Saint Louis. It was hit number 160 to put her in sole possession of 10th all-time in school history.

Senior Brooke Sullivan clubbed a double against Saint Louis for her 14th this season. The two-bagger put her in a tie for third by a Patriot in a single-season.

Saint Louis went deep with two outs in the opening frame to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The blast was Ansbro's only hiccup of the first three innings of the game, as the sophomore settled down nicely by striking out the side in order the next inning.

In the bottom of the third, the Patriots drew a couple of walks and notched a bunt single, but were unable to cash in with the bases loaded and one out. It turned out to be costly in the short-term as Saint Louis doubled the score at 2-0 with another solo home run to right in the top of the fourth.

The Patriots cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when Seymour singled up the middle to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. The score was nearly tied on that base-hit, but Saint Louis executed an 8-2 putout to end the inning and hold on to the lead.

The Patriots got another chance to tie it up and did so with one swing of the bat. Middleton hit a solo shot over the left field scoreboard and tied the game at 2-2, a score that would hold up to extra innings.

However, once extra innings came, the Billikens posted three runs on the scoreboard to go up 5-2. The lead proved large enough for the Patriots' at-bats in the eighth and Saint Louis emerged victorious in extras.

Looking to avoid elimination, the Patriots squared off with the Dayton Flyers in the evening contest. Dayton started strong and got a run in each of the first two innings, and added two more in the third to go up 4-0.

Ansbro entered the game and stifled the Flyers' offensive production, tossing four innings and tallying seven strikeouts. Her work in the circle kept Dayton off the scoreboard for the final three innings at the plate to keep the game at 4-0 from the fourth inning to the seventh.

Sophomore Sydnee Wells had a pinch-hit opportunity in the top of the seventh and made the most of it. After engaging in a seven-pitch at-bat, the catcher smoked a double down the right field line to drive in two Patriots and cut the lead in half. While the Patriots threatened for more, Manda Cash retired the side with the lead to secure Dayton's 4-2 victory.

The Patriots will return all but one player to the team next season. The team's six saves will go down as the most in a single season, while the 20 home runs finish as the second most in school history. Their 154 walks (3rd) and 227 strikeouts (3rd) also crack the top-five.
