The last time the Patriots and the Colonials faced off, all of the starting nine position players notched a hit. The production was led by leadoff hitter
Jess Curbeira and her three-run home run. The blast was the fourth time she went deep in 2017 and the second time in the month of April. Among Patriots still on the roster, Curbeira,
Brooke Sullivan,
Sydnee Wells,
Jess Middleton and
Madison Aker all got a hit.
The Green and Gold had a breakthrough weekend at the plate by posting 23 runs against St. Bonaventure, and 27 total runs when counting the Georgetown game before that. In the Sunday game at SBU, the Patriots scored eight runs in the seventh inning to elevate their total to 13 and tie the season high for most runs in a game.
Sophomore
Sydnee Wells led the Patriots with 6-for-9 hitting (.667 average) and got a hit in all four games this past week. The catcher topped off with a three-hit performance at St. Bonaventure (April 15) to tie her career high, and added her first triple of the season vs. Georgetown (April 11). Her six hits tied sophomore
Madison Aker for the most in the Patriots' last four games.
Four of Aker's hits came in Mason's 13-2 blowout win at SBU (April 15) to set a new career high. Aker was joined by sophomore
Alyssa Lawton who also tallied four hits that game, marking the first time this season two Patriots have notched four hits in the same game this season. Lawton's four hits also set a new single-game career high, and she also stole two bases in the Bonnies series for her ninth and 10
th bag of the season – surpassing her total from last season.
Freshman
Haellie Gordon appeared in all four games this past week and earned a win and a save in Mason's doubleheader sweep on April 14. Gordon held opponents to a .195 batting average and surrendered one earned run over her 11.1 innings pitched – an ERA good for 0.62. Sophomores
Bekah Ansbro and
Madison Larsen also had notable weeks in the circle. Ansbro logged 13 strikeouts over her team-leading 13.1 innings pitched – including a career high nine strikeout performance at SBU (April 14). Larsen tossed a season high three innings in George Mason's comeback victory vs. Georgetown (April 11) to stifle the Hoyas' bats and keep the Patriots in the game.
