OLEAN, N.Y. – George Mason began its weekend series at. St. Bonaventure on Saturday with a doubleheader. The Patriots had a balanced offensive attack and dominant pitching performance in game one, winning 5-2. The second game, late game heroics were needed by RS-freshman
Adriana Erickson as Mason won game two by a final of 5-2.
GAME ONE – George Mason 5, St. Bonaventure 2 | Winning pitcher:
Bekah Ansbro (5-8) — Losing pitcher: Rylee Hehir (5-9)
The Patriots took control early in the first inning, scoring two run runs off an RBI double from freshman
Marissa Butts and an RBI single from senior
Brooke Sullivan to give Mason the early lead. The Bonnies responded in the bottom of the first with a RBI double of their own by senior Hailey Blencowe.
In the third inning, Mason regained the lead from a RBI triple off the bat of RS-junior
Jess Middleton. Later in the inning, Erickson continued the offensive barrage with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Middleton from third. Middleton hit her first home run of the season in the fifth inning to extend the Mason lead to 5-1.
Sophomore pitcher
Bekah Ansbro was sensational in the circle, only allowing two runs, one earned run and striking out nine. Freshman
Haellie Gordon came in relief in the seventh inning for the save and shut the door on any chance of a Bonnies comeback.
RS-junior
Liz Seymour contributed with two hits, going 2-for-3 and with two runs.
GAME TWO – George Mason 5, St. Bonaventure 1 (5 innings) | Winning pitcher:
Haellie Gordon (7-9) — Losing pitcher: Josie Borysevicz (1-10)
The offense took a little longer to get going in game two, as Mason trailed by one run in the top of the seventh. Sophomore
Sydnee Wells tied the game in with a RBI single up the middle to tie the game. With sophomores
Alyssa Lawton and
Madison Aker on base, Erickson hit a three run home run to center field and give Mason the dramatic 5-2 comeback victory.
Gordon held steady for Mason only allowing one earned run and forced the Bonnies into 10 ground outs.
Erickson was perfect in game two going 3-for-3 and recording three RBI.
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
The final game of the road trip is set for Sunday at noon against the Bonnies. The Patriots will then return home for a midweek doubleheader matchup against George Washington that's scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18.
