FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason freshman forward
Emma van der Vorst has been selected Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It's the fourth time this season that van der Vorst has earned the honor.
A native of Amsterdam, van der Vorst scored a goal in both games last week. She tallied Mason's lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Saint Joseph's on Thursday and netted her third game-winner of the season in the 47th minute in a 1-0 victory at Massachusetts on Sunday.
The rookie forward leads the Atlantic 10 in goals (10) and points (23). She has scored a goal in 10 of the last 11 matches and recorded a point in 11 straight contests.
Nationally, van der Vorst is tied for the fourth-most goals (10) and is one of only 14 players with at least 10 goals this season. She is also tied for 26th in the nation in points (23) and is one of only three freshmen in the top 30.
The Patriots (9-5-0, 4-2-0 A-10) return to action on Thursday against Duquesne with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
