Emma van der Vorst scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime, lifting the fourth-seeded Patriots to a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Massachusetts in the Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals on Saturday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
"The first goal is to finish in the top four so we can play this home game," Mason head coach
Todd Bramble said. "Our team plays great here at home. We're looking forward to getting to Dayton and I know the players are excited."
The Patriots advance to the semifinals in Dayton, Ohio. They will play either top seed Saint Louis or No. 8 seed Dayton at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 at Baujan Field in Dayton.
Mason (14-5-0, 8-2-0 A-10) took the lead over UMass (11-6-1, 6-3-1 A-10) late in the first half.

Emily Bradshaw netted her first goal of the season off a corner kick in the 39th minute, finding room through a maze of players from five yards out to put the Patriots in front 1-0.

The Patriots have scored the first goal in 14 of their last 15 games.
UMass sophomore midfielder Jenny Hipp scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute, with her seventh goal of the season finding the lower right corner of the net to make it a 1-1 game.
After both sides played a scoreless first overtime, van der Vorst scored her sixth game-winning goal of the season in double-overtime in the 105th minute. She headed a cross from senior defender
Írunn Aradottir into the lower left corner of the net to give the Patriots a 2-1 win.
"Emma did more than just score that game-winning goal for us," Bramble said. "She really put in a lot of work. She covered a lot of ground, came back into the midfield and picked up the ball for us and defended well. She obviously has the golden touch right now and I'm proud of her and happy with her performance."
Mason has won six straight and eight of the last nine matches overall. The Patriots finish the campaign with a record of 8-2-0 at home, including a mark of 5-1-0 against conference opponents.
Emma van der Vorst led all players with three shots on goal in the game. She also scored the game-winner against the Minutewomen in Mason's 1-0 victory on Oct. 7 at Rudd Field in Amherst, Mass.
The Patriots finished with a 14-13 edge in shots, including a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Mason had six corner kicks, while UMass didn't have a corner kick in the match.

Morgan Symmers (12-3-0) made four saves. UMass senior goalkeeper Peyton Ryan (11-6-1) finished with five saves.
Symmers improved to 7-1-0 against A-10 opponents this season.
"There were definitely some distinct momentum swings in the game," said Bramble. "There were periods where we were really good and creating great chances and their goalkeeper made some great saves. There were periods where they were really good and had us defending in long stretches and Morgan made some great saves for us."
