Patriots Travel To La Salle For Final Road Match on Thursday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team plays its final road game of the regular season on Thursday, facing La Salle with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa.
 
Last time out, Mason (11-5-0, 6-2-0 A-10) improved to 5-3-0 on the road, clinching an Atlantic 10 Tournament berth with a 2-0 victory over Richmond on Sunday at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va.
 
Freshman forward Emma van der Vorst netted her fifth game-winning goal of the season, converting a penalty kick in the ninth minute of play.  She has recorded at least one point in 13 straight games, a new program record.
 
Mason scored the first goal for the 12th straight match.
 
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Morgan Symmers made three saves to earn her ninth win of the season. 
 
The Patriots have won three straight and five of their last six games, with all five victories by shutout.  Mason goalkeepers haven't allowed a goal over the last 275 minutes of play. 
 
Mason begins the week tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 with Saint Joseph's with 18 points.
 
Emma van der Vorst leads the league in goals (12) and points (27) and is tied for first in the conference in game-winners (5).  She has scored a goal in four straight games and 12 of the last 13 games.
 
Senior midfielder Emily Littell is second on the team in goals (4) and points (10), while classmate Rebecca Callison ranks fifth in the A-10 in assists (5).
 
Mason graduate student forward Jewel Christian, senior forward Nia Elbeck and sophomore midfielder Kayla Hamric are tied for third on the club in goals (2).
 
Nine different players have scored at least one goal for the Patriots, while six players have registered at least one game-winner.
 
Symmers (13 games/1015 minutes) is 9-3-0 with a 1.24 goals against average.  She has a 4-1-0 record against A-10 opponents, with three of the wins by shutout.  Symmers is tied for the fourth-most wins in the conference (9).
 
Last season, Mason and La Salle played to a 2-2 double-overtime draw in Fairfax.  The Explorers scored the equalizer with just 50 seconds remaining in regulation.
 
SCOUTING LA SALLE
 
The Explorers have an overall record of 8-6-1, including a mark of 3-5-0 against Atlantic 10 opponents.  La Salle is 5-3-0 at home and 3-3-1 on the road this season.
 
La Salle surrendered a second half goal and dropped a 1-0 decision to Fordham on Sunday at Coffey Field in Bronx, N.Y.  The Explorers fell to the Hawks for the first time since 2009.
 
La Salle has scored 26 goals and conceded 17 in its 15 matches this season.
 
The Explores posted a record of 3-0-1 in their first four road matches of the season, but have lost their last three games away from home.
 
Senior forward Madison Bower is tied for second in the A-10 in goals (9), tied for fifth in the conference in assists (5) and ranks fourth in the league in points (21).  Sophomore midfielder Molly O'Brien is tied for sixth in the A-10 in goals (7) and is fourth in points (21).
 
Junior midfielder Jess Shanahan is tied for second in the conference in assists (6).
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Jenkins (15 games/1407 minutes) is 8-6-1 with a 1.09 goals against average.  She is third in the A-10 in save percentage (.813), fourth in saves (74) and tied for fourth in shutouts (5).
 
CORNER KICK
 
The Patriots are 3-1-0 on the road this season in Atlantic 10 play. 
 
After dropping their first conference road game at VCU, 3-1, on Sept. 23, the Patriots have won each of their last three road games by shutout.  Mason hasn't allowed a goal over the last 271 minutes of play on the road.
 
Mason blanked George Washington (2-0, Sept. 27), UMass (1-0, Oct. 7) and Richmond (2-0, Oct. 14).
