ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A bevy of strong performances highlighted the weekend for the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams.
At a meet that did not feature team scoring, the Patriots boasted 16 finishes in the top three on the men's and women's sides at the Navy Invitational on Saturday at Wesley Brown Fieldhouse. Mason was victorious in three individual events and two relays.
On the women's side, senior
Sharon Dorsey won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:14.77. She zoomed past South Carolina's Maddie Beaubien (1:15.75). The 4x400-meter relay team also took first with a time of 3:43.67.
For the men, junior
Rico Gomez won the 400-meter dash in 47.71, ahead of South Carolina's Ty Jaye Robbins (48.60). Mason sophomore
Tyler Benson was not far behind in third (48.96).
Senior
Nathan Schulte won his fourth event of the season, coming across the line first in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:53.25. The 4x800-meter relay team also finished first in 7:44.52.
Other top three finishes for the Patriot women included: freshman
GJaudy John-Wallace taking second in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes (7.71 and 24.89); junior
Sarah Moore in the 400-meter dash (second, 55.19); and the 4x800-meter relay (third, 9:45.39).
On the men's side, top three-finishes included: junior
Blaine Lacey in the 800-meter run (2:26.62); senior
John Seals placed second in both the 60-meter hurdles and high jump (8.18 and 2.10 meters); junior
Kornelius Klah took third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.27); the 4x400-meter relay team finished second (3:14.59); and senior
Raeshawn Bishop took third in the triple jump (14.03 meters).
The Patriots are back in action next weekend at the Keydet Invitational at VMI on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Va.
