FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots continue their home stand by welcoming the Davidson Wildcats and the VCU Rams to the RAC for two matches this weekend. Mason faces the Wildcats on Friday at 7 p.m. and then will see the Rams on Saturday at 7 p.m. as well.

2017 marks the third year George Mason and Davidson play twice in the regular season, with 2014 and 2016 being the others. This will be the first season that the two have faced off head-to-head where the first match will be in Fairfax. VCU and George Mason have been facing off against one another since their inaugural seasons and see each other for the 57th time Saturday. This is the second year in a row the long-time conference foes play twice in the regular season, and the first time since 2013 the Patriots play VCU at home first.

SERIES HISTORY

Since their first meeting in 2008, the Patriots have won two matches and lost four against the Wildcats. Mason won the first two matches ever played between the teams, but have since lost four in a row. The green and gold therefore look to snap the skid and beat Davidson for the first time since 2014. History is on the Patriots side in the Mason-VCU all-time matchups. The Patriots hold the edge 36-21, with their last win coming in a 3-1 road victory on Oct. 4, 2015. Jordan Glass posted 11 kills in that match, tied for the third highest mark of her career.

NEWS AND NOTES
  • In her career against VCU, senior outside hitter Jordan Glass has compiled 32 kills in 10 sets played, good for an average of 3.20 kills per set. She's also logged five solo blocks against the Rams.
  • Glass needs 11 kills to reach 100 on the season and 13 blocks to reach 50 on the season.
  • Fresh off her 21 kill performance last week against George Washington, sophomore outside hitter Bailey Williams looks to pick up right where she left off this weekend. Williams is one of five players in the A-10 with two matches of at least 20 kills this season.
  • Williams logged her seventh double-double against GW last Friday. She leads the team in that department.
  • Sophomore Mikala Wells has notched double-digit kills in seven of her last eight matches. She's also recorded a block in six straight matches, including her single-match high two solo-block performance against Lafayette on Sept. 24.
  • Wells also checks in with 21 total blocks and 124 digs this year, and needs one block to match last year's season total and two digs to achieve the same accomplishment.
  • Junior libero Catie Espinoza is 20 digs shy of 300 on the season and one shy of 900 for her career. This season she's enjoyed four matches of at least 20 digs, and has picked up at least one service ace in each of those four matches.
  • Senior middle blocker Sydney Fanoga needs 12 blocks to reach 300 for her career.
  • Junior outside hitter Licie Leite saw action in all five sets of the George Washington match. The Brazil native tied her career high with three kills and set new career highs in attempts (16) and digs (15).
  • Freshman setter Emily Konchan needs 15 assists to reach 400 on the season. She's also picked up a kill in four of her last five matches.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Davidson Wildcats | 8-10 (1-4 A-10)
The Wildcats are looking to get back on track after dropping their last four matches. Their attack features three players with over 150 kills this season, those being senior outside hitter Kelly Friers (182 kills), junior outside hitter Ciera Cockrell (154 kills) and junior opposite hitter Katharine Franz (151 kills). The 'Cats talent is complimented by junior setter Mason Rooney, who is tied for second in the NCAA in triple doubles with three.

VCU Rams | 19-2 (5-0 A-10)
The Rams are red hot and clicking on all cylinders. Since Sept. 1 they've rattled off 16 straight victories (17 if they beat George Washington on Friday), with 11 of them being in straight sets. The backbone of their success has been in the blocking department. VCU is third in the nation in blocks per set thanks largely to sophomore middle blocker Jasmin Sneed. Sneed is first in the A-10 with 1.51 blocks per set, a mark that is also good for 16th in the nation. Along with Sneed, the Rams have three players among the top-five blocks per set leaders in the A-10 – junior middle blocker Tori Baldwin (2nd – 1.49 b/s) and sophomore opposite Gina Tuzzolo (5th – 0.97 b/s). VCU currently sits with Dayton atop the Atlantic 10 with a 5-0 conference record.
