George Mason Athletics Men's Track & Field 4/2/2016 11:09:00 PM

FAIRFAX, Va. – Buoyed by superb performances in the pole vault, high jump and the longest race of the weekend, the George Mason men and women's track and field teams enjoyed another successful weekend of the outdoor season.

With the teams spread across the country at the Colonial Relays in Virginia and the Stanford Invitational in California, two winning performances in the women's pole vault, one in the men's high jump and a trio of runners in the men's and women's 10,000-meter runs at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary stood out.

At the Colonial Relays, senior Lindsay Horton won the championship section of the pole vault with a leap of 3.85 meters. Junior Ashley Hinton shared the university section title by clearing 3.40 meters. In the high jump, three-time Atlantic 10 Conference champ John Seals won the championship section with a leap of 2.11 meters.

In the 10,000-meter run, junior Adam LaFemina took third with a time of 30:42.75 and freshman Grayson Morgan finished fifth in 30:47.78. On the women's side, freshman Carolyn Conley placed fifth with a time of 37:29.44, which is the sixth-fastest time in program history. All three runners reached qualifying marks for the ECAC Championships.

Out at the Stanford Invitational, the relay teams performed well, with the 4x100-meter team of Ayo Raymond, Junias Agyei, David Stone and Bernard Freeman taking first with a time of 40.46. The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished third as the all-freshman team of Agyei, Evander Pierre, Kornelius Klah and Rico Gomez finished in 3:12.83. Klah also placed eighth in the 110-meter men's hurdles with a time of 14.63.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Sharon Dorsey, Sarah Moore, Caela Williams and Sommer Sharpe placed fifth with a time of 3:43. 61.

“Overall it was a pretty good couple of days,” head coach Andrew Gerard said. “We're looking forward to being back home for the home meet this weekend and being in our own beds for a couple of days. But pretty good weekend overall.”

The Patriots return to Fairfax to host the Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
