NEWS & NOTES
The George Mason men's soccer team opens the 2015 campaign against Howard on Friday, August 28 in the Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup, hosted at George Mason Stadium. This will mark the third consecutive season in which Mason opens the regular season against the Sun Belt representative as the Patriots look to win their sixth-consecutive D.C. College Cup. The Patriots defeated the Bison 7-0 in last year's season opener at American University.

The tournament kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday when American University plays George Washington and is followed up by Mason's game against Howard. The Cup continues on Sunday, August 30, once more at 5:00 p.m. when Howard faces George Washington and concludes with Mason's match against American at 7:30 p.m.

The Patriots come off an 11-4-5 season and begin their third as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Head coach Greg Andrulis returns for his 11th year with the Green & Gold and is once again assisted by John O'Hara, Trevor Singer and Nate Kopunek. Mason returns 10 of its 11 starters from last season, including seniors Brice Colcombe, Jannik Eckenrode, Ahmed Ismail and Taylor Washington. Also returning are 2014 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team members Alain Sargeant and Henning Dirks, who finished last season second on the team in goals, assists and total points. Michael Butts and Edgar Zepeda round out the seven-man senior class.

Additionally, Mason welcomed nine freshmen this offseason along with the return of senior Ryan Harmouche, who previously played with the Patriots during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Freshman All-American goalkeeper Steffen Kraus is also back between the pipes after missing the final quarter of the 2014 season due to injury. Zach Herstek, Daniel Hoffman and Cullen Hunter all received regular starting time last season and will be sporting the Green & Gold again in 2015, along with David Galdo, Bashir Hooper, Noah Kemble, Conlan Kemmerer, Matt Tucker and Alex Wrona.

The Bison finished the 2014 campaign with an overall record of 2-15-2 and graduated five seniors from last year's squad. American will look for revenge against the Patriots, who won last season's match 1-0 and are on a five-match winning streak against the Eagles. American ended last season 11-4-4 and reached the Patriot League quarterfinals. George Washington has played the Patriots in each of the previous three seasons has been outscored 6-0 in those matches. The Colonials finished 6-9-2 in 2014 and add six freshmen to this season's roster.

Following the Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup Mason hosts four additional non-conference games against Albany, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hofstra and High Point as well as Atlantic 10 matches against VCU, Dayton, Duquesne and Rhode Island. Road contests conclude a battle against 2014 NCAA champion and preseason No. 1 Virginia on September 8 in Charlottesville, Va. and Atlantic 10 contests versus George Washington, Saint Joseph's, Fordham and Davidson. The 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship will be hosted by George Mason University from November 12-15 at George Mason Stadium.
