George Mason track and field continued post-season competition this weekend at the NCAA East Preliminary round in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 12 finishers in each event advance to the finals in Eugene, Or.
Senior Shavon Briscoe set a personal record in the semi-finals of the women's 100m hurdles, finishing just outside the top 12 with a school record time of 13.32. Taylor Sharpe completed her impressive freshman outdoor season, setting a personal record and moving to second all time at George Mason with a time of 52.60 in the preliminary run of the women's 400m dash Thursday. Sharpe went on to compete in the semi-finals where she finished 17th with a time of 52.93.
After qualifying for the quarterfinal round with a time of 21.08 in the men's 200m dash, sophomore Bernard Freeman set a personal record Saturday with a time of 21.06 in an 18th place finish. Senior Anthony Williams also set a personal record with a mark of 13.92 in the first round of the men's 110m hurdles, finishing 16th and qualifying for the quarterfinals where he finished 22nd with a time of 14.32.
· Sophomore Steven Flynn narrowly missed qualifying for the quarterfinals of the men's 1500m run, finishing with a time of 3:49.54.
· Senior Michael Conway completed his decorated career at Mason with a time of 31.11.17 in the men's 10,000m run.
· Freshman John Seals finished with a mark of 2.09m in the men's high jump.
· Junior Michelle Wallerstedt finished 29th in the women's discus throw with a distance of 47.62m.
· The men's 4x100m relay team of Ayo Raymond, Walter Mitchell, DaQuan Smalls and Freeman finished 16th with a time of 40.10.
· The men's 4x400m relay team of Angel Coburn, Freeman, Smalls and Jordan May finished 23rd with a time of 3:13.42.
· Junior Jimi Tele finished 28th in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.07m.
· Bethany Sachtleben finished 18th in the women's 10,000m run with a time of 34:55.64 Thursday before finishing with a time of 16:44.97 in the 5000m run Saturday night.
· Following an Atlantic 10 title in the triple jump, sophomore Nhautry Brown finished 41st in the triple jump with a mark of 11.87m.
